Test Prep
Standardized tests are a reality of life in education. While all students learn differently, these universal sensors are often used to rank, categorize, and sort students regardless of how each personally learns best. At The Grammar Shop and More we look at where each student arrives at the standardized test, and what the expectations and goals are. We analyze past scores on school sanctioned tests like the ERB, and then make a plan for each student to be successful.

Test taking skills are broken down into specific strategies and overall “Game Plans” to maximize results on standardized tests from the ERB or ISEE to the SAT or ACT.

Reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing mechanics, mathematical fundamentals, logic, and quantitative comparison are taught in specific lessons accompanied by practice activities and overall “Attitude Training” to eliminate test blocks, jitters and anxiety. The short essay is a featured element of each set of classes and a speciality of The Grammar Shop and More. Again, an individual approach supports each student in the best way.
ERB/ISEE classes are offered all summer, mornings and afternoons, and every Friday, afternoon and Saturday morning, during the school year, and SAT/ACT classes are offered Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

Fall ISEE Prep classes are offered two times a week: Fridays from 3:30-6:30 and on Saturdays from 9:30-12:30 and begin on Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17. Classes continue through December 16.

Winter ISEE prep classes will begin Friday, January 6, and Saturday, January 7 and continue for 15 weeks.

Reviews
"The skills that Brad taught me as a 10-year-old formed the foundation for all my subsequent growth as a writer. His grammar exercises were so fun what I still fondly remember learning to dissect passages about adventurous pirates and winning a competition in 6th grade for writing the longest grammatically correct sentence. In high school, I had a much easier time grasping a second language after learning to think so clearly about my own. Now, as a pre-med student, I regularly fend off English and Social Studies professors who beg me to switch majors. Overall, I credit Brad's unique personality and teaching style for much of the academic success I've
experienced so far. I highly recommend him in any and all capacities."

Brad gave our son respect, confidence, the skills to tackle any academic challenge and so much more. Brad was a teacher, counselor, mentor and friend. Our son saw Brad for extra help in English in middle school and high school. That time spent with Brad made all the difference in the world to our son. He was able to develop strategies to organize and plan his writing. These skills spilled over to other subjects such as history. He became a better reader. Later in high school Brad worked with Jake as he developed his essays for college applications and studied for the SAT. Simply put, Brad has been a great asset in our son's life in and out of the classroom.
